One of the greatest challenges facing students and workers in today's society comes in the fact that many don't have the slightest idea as to what they would like to do regarding a career choice, or they feel they are in the wrong career. More than 70% of those asked, "Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best in your current job?" answer "no."
Before a good career decision can be made a person needs to know a bit about themselves. There are several questionnaires one can take to help in that regard. The key one is the Clifton StrengthsFinder (SF34). This web based questionnaire reports your top five strengths and provides you with information as to how to capitalize upon them in academics and making a career choice or change.
If you wish to find out more, or take the questionnaire, go to:
www.strengthsquest.com
and have a read.
I can't recommend the experience highly enough.
If you would like to find out more about me you can go to: www.cadnstuff.com/edlead.
This page has links listing my strengths and the outcome of several questionnaires that I have taken, as well as my mission statement. The results of the questionnaires that I have taken are under the button "Instruments Taken"
If you would like to take the "Big Five" type indicator, I have written a web based assessment. In order to make the instrument free, the results are placed in an aggregate database for group (not individual) analysis. Students are tracked by Student ID only. The ID is required to that you can revisit the results of the assessment.
- All grading is tracked through SNAP
- Nearly all the Tutorials are worth 10 points each. Some of the tutorials are not graded because they cover material that is beyond the scope of this class. See SNAP for further details.
- All exams will be taken in SNAP and are time sensitive. That is, there are windows of time set up for accessing the exams. They are also timed. You will be permitted two attempts on each exam. Because the exams are online, there will be no make-up examinations
- Document assessments are homework that will be available at the opening of each section and must be completed by the close of each section
- If you are using SNAP, homework is also called Document Assessment or simply assessment. You must follow the instructions carefully to get credit as the computer performs the homework correction. Homework files are keyed to the student. Consequently you must download the homework assignment, edit it, and upload it per instructions. Creating a new file or copying someone else's file to start over will not work. Homework will be due by the close of each section. Late homework is not accepted.
- Students are expected to complete all assignments by the due date.
- Student will be expected to attend all classes as there is material covered in class that is unavailable any where else and may appear on an examination.
- Each class meeting will begin promptly and each student is expected to exercise courtesy and discretion in the event of unavoidable tardiness. Punctuality is important and demonstrates a respect for your peers.
- Each student expected to not be disruptive.
- Students are expected not to attend class under the influence of controlled substances, alcohol, or other substances that affect the physical or mental being in a way that could result in disruption of the class.
Extenuating Circumstances
-
It is my goal to make you, the student, as successful as possible.
- If there are any problems, regardless of the situation, please contact me and I will do my best to work out a solution that will work for you and still meet the goals of this class.
- If there is any confusion or questions please feel free to ask or make an appointment. Remember, for most of you the reason you have enrolled in the class is because you don't know the material.
- Therefore, it is expected that you will ask what some may feel are simple questions. Please note that sometimes a person can be so lost that they cannot generate a single question. Don't let this stop you from getting help. Simply state you are lost.

- Grading will not be done on a curve. Therefore it is possible for every one to receive an "A" for the final grade in this class.
- Categories will have equal weight. I.e.: Midterm, Final, Quizzes, Homework all contribute to 25% of the grade. For the IS 101 Class, the major exams together count for 75% of the grade. The remaining categories will be equally divided across 25% of the grade.
- If you have to miss an exam, inform the instructor in writing for rescheduling.
- Please note that it is possible for the student's grade to decrease by one full grade point by being disruptive in class.
- A computer is responsible for doing the actual grading. As a consequence there is no adjustment possible. That is to say if one gets an 89.9 the resulting grade will be a B+ not an A-.
- For each unexcused absence a 1% cap will be place on your overall score.
- If you have a documented disability that may require assistance, you will need to contact the Disability Resource Center (DRC) for coordination of your academic accommodations. The DRC office is located at Student Services on each Campus.
- The Operator at any campus will be able to put you in touch with the DRC during operating hours. Simply ask for the Disability Resource Center and he or she will put you through.
- For those students that would like to earn a little extra cash, stop by the DRC office to fill out a job interest card. DRC hires students as note takers, readers, proctors, scribes, lab assistants, research assistants, and sign language interpreters as needed.
- The safety procedures for the college are posted in the classroom.
- Procedures will also be discussed during the first class meeting.
- Any injury or accident should be reported to the instructor immediately, unless it's the instructor that is injured; in that case, contact security.
- Unless a threat to life exists, an injured person should never be moved.
- If there is a person in class that has formal training in first aid, defer to that person. Such persons will be identified at the beginning of the semester. If in doubt, contact the instructor.
Any student caught cheating or copying software or files for any reason forfeits his/her right to a passing grade and will be blocked from the class until the issue has been resolved.
- In keeping with its dedication to learning by all members of its community, CSN demands a high level of academic behavior. Acts of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism and cheating, are regarded as very serious offenses.

- If the instructor feels that the student has not been honorable while taking any examinations during the course of this class, the student will be asked to leave the class and not return. The student shall also receive an "F" as final grade for the class and documentation of the offense will be forwarded to the department dean.
